Be Strong and Courageous!
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” jos.1.9.nkjv
Fear is always creeping around at the front door of our hearts. Negative fear can paralyze our souls and keep us from stepping out in any direction, especially toward all that God has for us. Being afraid is a part of life on every level, but staying afraid amidst life’s journey can be costly. Planting a church is not for the fearful. There are so many variables at hand and you can liken it to the craziest roller coaster ride you’ve ever been on. But God’s word is full of men and women who faced fear in the face. Consider Joshua, who took on leading God’s people after Moses had passed. Can you imagine suddenly being in charge of over thousands of people? God speaks to him directly and encourages him to stand strong. How? He had to remind this new, fresh leader of leaders that he would be with him…wherever.
Consider the disciples in the book of Acts. Jesus leaves them gazing into the sky probably saying, “What the heck do we do now?” in Acts chapter one. But they weren’t alone. Encouraged to put their trust in everything Jesus had taught them, they step into scary territory and begin planting the New Testament church laying a foundation for us all. These guys gave up more than we will ever comprehend. Houses, cars, dreams of the future…radically changing the landscape of what had been and declaring what was through Christ.
Change is never easy and the fear of change is the companion that travels with many of us through our lives. It whispers voices in our heads that keep us from stepping out and taking a risk. Let’s be a church that steps out boldy into our community with the abounding love of Christ. It’s going to look different than what was. It’s going to reach a generation that we may not be familiar with. It may be learning an entirely new way to share our faith. What matters is what’s at the heart…Jesus being the answer. We can live comfortably where we are when it comes to “church” or we can be the kind of church that is asking God to lead us with fresh perspective and new methods with the uncompromising message of the cross. As author and speaker Christine Caine says, sometimes you just have to step into the unknown afraid knowing that God is with you. In time, courage rises up and overcomes all fear! At 29:11, we are a generation willing to plant a church..unafraid!
Prayer Emphasis: Pray for God to continue to build a team of fearless individuals who believe in the vision and mission of 29:11church. Ask Him to fill our hearts with immense courage to bring the message of hope to a hopeless world. Let’s believe for a spirit of COURAGE to fill our hearts regarding whatever God asks us to do.
