Plan. Hope. Future.
“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:3 NIV
What sort of tree would you say you represent as a human being? A beautiful palm? A wispy pine? A weeping willow? Isaiah encourages us here to see ourselves as a strong OAK of RIGHTEOUSNESS. Will your roots grow deep in Christ this year? Are you setting up habits, making changes and finding a good rhythm so you can become a strong OAK OF RIGHTEOUSNESS for God’s glory in 2017?
As we head into a brand new year, what sort of root system did the past season prevail in your life? Did you just get yourself started in your walk with God and grow beneath the surface? Were your roots torn from their planted place by the circumstances of life? Are they tangled up with someone else’s roots creating a mess that’s choking your growth? God’s desire for all us is stated right here through the prophetic word of Isaiah. He doesn’t see a dwindling, little Charlie Brown Christmas tree inside of you…but a RIGHTEOUS OAK. Strong roots deep into the soil of His love so that when the winds of life blow through your branches, and at times seemingly pull off every leaf, you still can stand your ground. How? Because you have laid down the habits of spending time with God, prayer and investing in knowing His word. All things that help you stand like a ‘righteous oak’ even if you are planted in a forest of weak trees.
Invest in yourself today. How? By making time for God a part of your daily routine in 2017. Spending time with Him will unfold His plan, give you hope when you need it most and help you face the future and whatever it holds.

Action: Find a time you can spend with God on a daily basis. Morning, noon, night…whenever. Try to stay committed to that time as best as you can. Whether it’s ten minutes or an hour, keep it a part of your daily routine. Purchase a notebook or journal to write down thoughts about what you read, impressions you feel God has laid on your heart, prayer requests from others and your own needs and wishes. At the end of 2017, you will look back and see roots that that grew deeper as the days went by.
