Plan. Hope. Future.
“See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:10 NIV
It’s a brand new year! The chalkboard is clean. The paper is blank. The canvas hasn’t been painted. The new song hasn’t been written. There is no better time than to dream about what is ahead. Our God is a master at forging forward past old thinking patterns, discouraging and bad habits and frustrating circumstances. He trenches into our wastelands with the living water only He can bring quenching our thirsty souls. Can you see it?
My dad always said “If you don’t plan to succeed then you will surely plan to fail.” He was a brilliant engineer that designed machines that made all varieties of paper from the ground up. He would blueprint every tiny part detailing everything he needed from the tiniest bolt to the largest rolling drum. Without a blue print or plan there would have been no way to get these monster machines off the ground. God has a plan, a blue print for the new things He wants to do in your life in this new season. We have to be willing to ask. We have to be willing to plan. We have to be willing to take risks. The first step is to establish some sort of rhythm. Making changes can be overwhelming, especially at the start of a new year. So gently beginning is key in building momentum that can sustain the 12 months ahead.
Our bodies our part organic growth and part rhythm. Without a consistent heartbeat our blood couldn’t pump and regulate our lungs and organs to do their job. It all hinges on the consistent rhythm of our hearts. Our lives depend on these systems to do their thing. So does God’s plans for our days. They hinge on our ability to obediently follow through with what He has given us to do. It starts small.
With that in mind, what can you do today that will help be the first step in making 2017 more fulfilling than any year before? What have you asked God for in 2017? Have you written down the word or phrase he has given you? Have you asked Him how to unfold His heart for you in the next day, week or month?
He has given each of us 12 new chapters and 365 new chances. Take a few moments today to dream about all that lies ahead. Ask God to bless 2017 in ways that go beyond your thoughts or imagination. God has great plans for you!

Action: Start to write down a few of the places in which you need to grow a steady rhythm. Maybe it’s making your daily time with God a priority and then making it happen. Maybe it’s organizing your thoughts every morning. Maybe it’s drinking more water and less soda or taking a walk everyday to clear your head. Jot down a few areas and then try to complete them day by day.
