 What is Samaritan’s Purse?

Mission Statement

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Operation Christmas Child distributes shoebox gifts to children in over 100 countries and works in and through local churches, offering children Gospel literature and culturally appropriate evangelistic and follow-up programs.  The shoebox gifts open doors for presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ.

29:11 & OCC Partnership

29:11 is excited to be a Drop Off Location for Operation Christmas Child.  During the 3rd week of November, various churches and businesses in the East Valley will collect shoeboxes from their congregation or organization and deliver them to 29:11, a hub for OCC.  We will be honored to pray over each and every box and deliver them to the collection center.

Last year our collected boxes went to India, Philippines, Indonesia, and Ukraine.

OCC Making a Difference

Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected and delivered more than 146 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in over 160 countries through Operation Christmas Child.

In 2016, 9.1 million shoeboxes were collected throughout the United States.

More than 2.8 million children have participated in The Greatest Journey, the 12-lesson discipleship program created by Samaritan’s Purse for children who receive OCC gift boxes. The Greatest Journey is one of the largest discipleship programs in the world, helping children know and follow Jesus Christ.

What can you do to be a part?

 1.  Fill a Box! It’s simple, fun and doesn’t cost a ton. It’s a great idea to get your family, friends and community involved.

Here are some simple directions!

Start with a shoe box, then decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and choose an age range: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Now you're ready to start filling your box! A complete shoebox includes toiletries, school supplies, and toys.

How to Pack an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox .jpg

Non-liquid Hygiene Items: toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc.

School Supplies: pens, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, solar calculators, etc.

Toys: Pick a medium to large item that will capture the child’s attention! Pack fun items such as yo-yos, jump ropes, soccer balls, toys that light up (with extra batteries), etc.

Additional Items: T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, water bottles, flashlights (with extra batteries), etc.

Optional: Decide a fun theme for your box, include a personal note and photo, or buy in multiples to make several boxes at once.

Your box is packed!  Next, we ask that you pray over your box and child who will be receiving your gift.  Then drop it off with a suggested donation of $9 for shipping. Take your shoebox gift to 29:11church during National Collection Week, November 13th-20th.  You can pay by check (made out to Samaritan’s Purse/OCC), cash, or card.  You can even pay your shipping online, print the label, and follow your box to see where it gets delivered!  Do so HERE.

Drop off location is Jeremiah’s Coffee Co./29:11church 5042 s. Price Road/Tempe 85282

2. Volunteer during collection week.

Give an hour or two and be a part of helping take in boxes from local residents, churches and businesses. Whether you are in high school, a local college student, a stay at home mom, or retired, we would love your help. Send us an email sharing your passion to help during collection week of November 13th-20th.

3. DONATE

Provide a financial donation to help cover shipping costs for OCC boxes. We can accept donations on-site at 29:11 church. You can also donate directly on the Samaritan's Purse website. Additionally, you can donate new items that we will use to fill more shoeboxes!

Goals

This year our 29:11church and community goal is 500 boxes in total! Our hope is to change the life for over 500 kids around the globe.
