Reset to Joy

"For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.”

Psalm 30:5, NKJV

Reset. God designed us all with this magical reset function called sleep. If you have a stressful day, often times it seems the only solution is to go to sleep and try again tomorrow. This is instinctive. We are designed to reset after the comfort of a full night of sleep. Sometimes, that night of sleep is exactly what we need to recover from being overwhelmed. Most times, you wake up in the morning ready to handle things you could not confront the day before. Sleep allows us to let go. Sleep provides a sweet relief from our trials, and allows us to encounter a new joy when the morning comes.

This verse opens our eyes to how temporary life’s trials are. Some trials may be over before morning light, others seem endless. God’s favor is eternal when we rest in him. Even if you may weep through the night, you weep with Christ. Christ weeps with you. Sharing the burden with Christ means you are resting in him. The difficulties of life will vary in intensity and duration—but joy always comes in the morning. We reset, we wake up, and a new day is available to us. God’s favor is for life; his anger and our trials are light and momentary in comparison to his works within us. Some suffering may go on for an extended time, but this “morning joy” also refers to our promise in eternity. There may seem to be a night of suffering clouding our lives, but the morning is comparable to heaven’s eternal joy.

Romans 8:18 states, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (NKJV). Even if the suffering lasts all the way through the night, God promises to reveal his glory in us. To be a vessel of God’s glory is worth infinitely more than the cost of any amount of suffering –there is no comparison. This is where we find our joy. Through our trials, God is using us. Through the tears, he is shaping our hearts to further glorify him. Joy comes in the morning. Reset. Recognize God’s favor over your life. Weep in him. Encounter joy.
