"No one is holy like the LORD! There is no one besides you; there is no rock like our God."
1 Samuel 2:2 NLT
These words pour from the mouth of Hannah, a new mother, who just dedicated her son Samuel to the LORD. She responds to the situation of his birth by praising God's good work. In 1 Samuel 1:27, she states "I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD" (NIV). Just a short time prior to all this, Hannah was unable to bear children and was being mocked for it. This provoking pushed her so hard that she struggled to eat and wept consistently. She brings this pain to the LORD, asking him to look upon her misery. She then boldly asks God for a son. God honors her request, and she follows through on her vow to dedicate him to the LORD.
When we experience a struggle and are weeping at God's feet, we place the issue in front of him. We send up that prayer, anticipating that he will cover those needs. But how often do we turn around and publicly praise him for responding to and meeting those requests? How often do we take a moment to relish in the relief of his sweet love?
What Hannah is saying here is the absolute and beautiful truth. God is unlike anything in the universe. There is NO one beside him. He is our rock, our strength, our protection, and our provision. It is absolutely pertinent that we take the time to praise God and simply be in his presence. The God of the universe has personally responded to you. Taste the sweetness that comes along with that concept.
Take a moment to reflect on your most recent request of God and look for the ways in which he answered you. Look back on the course of your life, and praise him for all of the action he has taken on your behalf. God fights for us daily, he is our solid foundation at all times. Let's thank him for that with sincerity.
We would like you to take some intentional time this week to choose to praise God. Let the words overflow from your heart. Recognize his holiness, and admire him for it. Verbalize the joy you have in him.
