"Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."
Romans 8:17, NIV
Then we are heirs. Then. It follows that. We are heirs. Are. This is a definite fact. This is the truth. I am an heir. We are royalty, because of God's royalty. In light of our position to Christ, we are heirs made royal. We are his sons and daughters, we are heirs. We have a name. There is a distinct importance to each and every one of us as God's destined heir.
LORD, help us to see that we are royal! Allow us to believe in our worth. Assist us in seeing the value of our work for your kingdom. We pray that we would experience the full truth and validity of being your heirs. May we take this truth to heart! Teach us to fully live in this solid truth. Change our eyes to view ourselves and others as your holy and royal following.
Co-heirs. To be a co-heir means you live with the hope of a promise. When you are heir to a throne though, you also live with a specific set of privileges and rules. Co-heirs are held to the same standard as each other; they live under the same roof. They are all promised the same inheritance, as it all comes from the same place. They are essentially given everything the same. We share rights and rules with Christ, along with privileges. These things, we share with each other as co-heirs. Being co-heirs unifies all of us in the same kingdom. We are in the same place, seeking the same inheritance.
God, we pray that we would honor you like the King you are. We pray that we would treat others like they are co-heirs with us and Jesus. We all deserve equal respect and treatment, just as we are all worthy of an equal inheritance. We pray that we would remember the way we are all worthy of this, of being called your children and partaking in your royalty. We are your children. You are so good to us.
May we live today and everyday in the confidence of belonging to a kingdom that makes us royal co-heirs with Christ.
